Communication
Good parent-teacher communication is important for a successful school year for your child. I look at us as a team! :) My main source of communication is through e-mail. I also use an app called Seesaw to share some of your student's work.
CES phone number: 307-733-9651.

Conferences/Report Cards
We have parent/teacher conferences twice a year (November and March). They are 20 minutes long, and all parents are expected to attend. Please try your best to make these meetings and be on time. This is a time to hear and see all the great things your child is doing, discuss any concerns, and a great time to ask questions.
Report cards will go home twice a year (February and June). Please feel free to contact me if you are ever concerned with your child's progress, and I will make sure to do the same.
Homework
Reading: At least 10 minutes every night. Your child will have a reading goal each month (minutes). If they meet their goal, they will earn various rewards.
*Practice Popcorn words
Math: No homework/practice math facts 1-20
Spelling: Words their Way sorts
Behavior
Behavior Calendar: Your child will have a behavior calendar in their folder each month. Everyday they will earn a number (4,3,2,1). You will need to initial it each night. This is an excellent way for me to communicate with you about your child's day. Most days your child will earn a 3 if they are following the 4 B's (Be respectful, safe, responsible, friendly). Please celebrate this with your child and encourage them to keep up the awesome work. If they receive a 2 or 1, I will write a note or give you a call, depending on the reason. Please have a discussion with your child at night if they do receive a 2 or lower.
Refocus Form: 3 refocus forms=office referral
Office Referral: Student will meet with the Principal, you will receive a phone call with next steps.
Colter Pride Days: If students do not have any office referrals, they will have the opportunity to participate in Colter Pride Days. These are held every 8 weeks generally. More information to come! :)

"Gotchas"/School Store
Students can earn "Gotchas" with they are exhibiting the 4 B's (be respectful, responsible, safe, and friendly). We will visit the "Gotcha Store" once a week where students can spend their Gotchas. They will also be able to purchase things like inviting a friend to lunch, lunch in the classroom, etc.
Snacks
Our classroom has a snack everyday. Students can bring their own snacks, or choose from the fruit/vegetable of the day. CES has once again received a fresh fruit/veggie grant, so I will always have something healthy for the kids (ie: apples, bananas, oranges, etc.). I strongly urge parents to send a snack(s) everyday just in case, as children do not always like the fruit/veggie option. Healthy snacks are preferred and candy/chocolate/chips are not allowed. If these items are packed in their lunches that is fine, but not for snack time please.
Some ideas for snacks are: granola bars, goldfish, graham crackers, veggies, fruits, trailmix, pretzels, yogurt, etc.
Classroom Celebrations (TBD due to Covid)
We have 3 celebrations throughout the year: Halloween, Christmas, and Valentine's Day. I would LOVE help with organizing these celebrations.
Halloween: Costumes, Parade, and Party in the afternoon. Please send costumes in a labeled bag.
Christmas: Winter party
Valentine's Day: Valentine exchange, and party in the afternoon. Please make sure to include a Valentine for everyone! :)
Star of the Week
Each week our classroom will have a Star of the Week. We will pick our new star each Friday, and there will be a special poster sent home with that student to decorate/complete, and return to school. Our Star of the Week will have special duties to help out the teacher during their week. Each Star may bring something for Show and Tell on Friday if they would like.
Field Trips
We have so many AMAZING field trips in 1st grade! They vary from year to year, but most revolve around our PARTners/projects. More information to come throughout the school year! We go snowshoeing in January, and to Colter Bay at the end of the school year.
Specials
Each afternoon your child will have a "special". It may be Art, Music, Library, Computers, PE, or Spanish. This gives your child an opportunity to get to know other teachers and adapt to new learning environments. Please see our specials schedule under the Daily Schedule tab so your child will be prepared.
Book Orders
Book orders will be sent home four times a year (September/November/March/May). These are age appropriate books at a great price! I hope that you will all take advantage of this opportunity to encourage your kids to read with you. :)
You can order online (see Scholastic tab) or with cash. No Checks please!
As a bonus, every time you place an order, our classroom earns points to buy books!
Book order due dates are generally 1 week after the catalog goes home.
Birthdays
Please let me know in advance if you would like to celebrate your child's Birthday at school. We celebrate birthdays at the very end of the day. It is very important to contact me if you would like to bring in treats so I can plan accordingly. Birthday Invitations--unless you are inviting the whole class, please do not hand out invitations at school.
If Your Child is Sick…
If your child is sick, PLEASE keep them home. Sending them to school is not only difficult for them, but you are putting other children at risk. I will have no problem sending them back home if I feel they are at risk and/or putting others at risk.
Toys
No toys at school please—keep them at home.

General School Information
Arrival
School begins at 8:05am. If you are dropping off or picking up your child, please use the entrance at the front of the school. Buses will drop/pick up kids at the back of the school (no cars). Please follow these guidelines to ensure the safety of all of our kids. If students arrive before the bell they can either get breakfast or play on the WEST playground. Children who arrive after 8:05 will be marked tardy.
Dismissal
School dismisses at 2:45pm. If any of your child's transportation information ever changes, please let me know. I will need a note or phone call from PARENTS. You can email BY NOON that day, and I'll send you a confirmation. Or you can call the office , and let them know and they will make sure I get the message. Please make sure to call the office BY 2:00PM.
If your child plans on using the activity bus, this MUST be organized through the Bus/Transportation department.
Big 5
When the weather changes, your children will need to come to school wearing the "Big 5": Hat, gloves, boots, snowpants, and coat. Please LABEL all clothing! Our Lost and Found gets very full by the end of the winter! Typically, unless the temperature goes below 0 degrees, we go outside for recess—therefore the Big 5 is very important!
Box Tops
Please send in Box Tops with your children to raise money for our school. We have a box located in our classroom that the PTO collects each month. The class that brings in the most each month wins a prize!
Medications
The school nurse will administer all medications. Please contact the nurse if your child is to be given any medicine during school hours. Do not send medicine to school in your child’s backpack.
